Despite the ebb and flow of political power in Washington
over the last two centuries, the trajectory of US politics seems inevitable.
The nature of Liberalism is the belief that the world is in a
persistent state of being broken and needs to be fixed. Status Quo is, at best, considered to be
quaint and well meaning, but lacking in sophistication and potential.
Liberalism is as a raging river and Conservatism the dam or levee. The dam cannot hold the water back in perpetuity, but allows an overflow
that doesn’t permit the over saturation of the basin.
Since the days of the founding fathers, conservatives with
the aid of the Constitution, have promoted the ideals of individual rights and
individual liberty.
Liberalism, however, has considered the Constitution as
being a good launching point in pursuit to perfection. With little regard to
the individual, the desires of the perceived collective have been paramount. The
arbiter for liberalism is the Government who is considered to be good and fair
in its administration without deference to individual liberty.
In recent years, the direction of Liberalism as a “collective”
has been influenced heavily by the will of societal microcosms seeking preference
with regards to standing and exemption from criticism. With the explosion of social media, these societal
microcosms develop, and grow in both numbers and standing while swelling the
river of Liberalism.
Sadly... at our current trajectory, sooner or later the dam will
break.
